Skimming scanning how to#
Students maybe know how to read but how to get or understand about the text it is still not easy. A teacher always tries to find the way to improve teaching that skill.

Then reading skill is one of difficult skill in English. Teaching English is mean learning about all the skill of English learning as reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, and grammar. These are the same stages described in the guides on teaching reading and viewing. reflecting and creating personal knowledge.activating, expanding and refining prior knowledge.The strategies and activities are also categorised according to the stages of the reading process that they support: While the strategies are listed alphabetically in the table of contents, by using the matrix teachers can readily identify those that are suitable for their students' Year level.
Skimming scanning series#
It is a companion document to the series of guides on teaching reading and viewing. This booklet provides teachers with a collection of strategies and activities for developing students' comprehension. It involves extending student's vocabularies and knowledge of the world, developing their knowledge of English grammar and their decoding skills, developing their reading fluency and extending their ability to comprehend what they read and view from the literal level to the inferential and critical levels. Introduction Teaching students to become effective readers is an important goal of the compulsory years of schooling.

There were twelfth steps in implementing of the scanning and skimming technique in teaching reading (1) to read the passage and look at the title (2) to read the introduction or lead-in paragraph (3) to read the first sentence of every paragraph completely (4) to identify main ideas of a certain paragraph (5) to review graphs, tables, and charts to get explicit information (6) to read the final paragraph completely (7) to find a general impression of a text (8) to search for key words (9) to predict the meaning (10) to state the specific information (11) to find out implicit information of a text, and the last steps the researcher asked to students to analyze the organization of a text. During the teaching and learning process, the students were active and enthusiastic. It stated from the mean result scores of the test was 85 and less than 20% of the students got the result below 80. The result of data analysis showed that the implementation of the scanning and skimming technique can improve students' reading ability. The researcher collected the data by documenting, observing and interviewing. The researcher took the third semester students of STKIP Paracendekia NW Sumbawa in academic year 2015/2016 as the subject of the study. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. This research aimed at: (1) to know whether the implementation of the scanning and skimming technique can improve reading ability, (2) to investigate how the scanning and skimming technique in implementing to teaching reading at the third semester students of STKIP Paracendekia NW Sumbawa in academic year 2015/2016.
